CHILCOT REPORT - AN INQUIRY REPORT CRITICISING TONY BLAIR'S DECISION OF IRAQ INVASION

In First Week of this Month Great Britain shook with the result of the referendum to exit of Britain from BREXIT. After that the British Political World shook with one report regarding the British Invasion of Iraq during the year of 2003 with US army. Sir Chilcot Submitted the Inquiry report about the invasion of Iraq. This report is fully criticizing the Former Prime minister Mr. Tony Blair and his decision to join with US troops for the invasion of Iraq by alleged Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) in Iraq.

Sir John Chilcot

Iraq Invasion was the first invasion done by British Force after Second World War. The report blames the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s decision to join with US army. The report says Blair overrated the threat posed by Saddam Hussein and he sent ill-prepared troops in to the battle and had Wholly Inadequate plans for the aftermath. The war lost the life of around 179 British Soldiers. The relatives of the soldiers who lost lives in the war raised against Mr. Blair and they insisted the Government to Bring Mr. Blair to prosecution. I would like to note the summary of Chilcot report.

The Chilcot Inquiry Commission was a British Public Inquiry Commission announced by Mr. Gordon Brown in 2009 for the Nation’s role in Iraq war. The members of the committee were chosen by Mr. Brown which comprised of
1.     Sir John Chilcot (chairman) - A Diplomat and Senior Civil servant.
2.     Sir  Lawrence Freedman      - A military Historian and professor of war studies at King’s college of                                                              London
3.     Sir Martin Gilbert                   - A Historian who supported the invasion.
4.     Sir Roderic Lyne                      - former ambassador to Russia and UN and former PS of Former PM John Major.
5.     Baroness Prashar                    - Member of Join Committee on Human Rights

The Committee heard inquiry mostly from civil servants, intelligence and security officials, diplomats and military officers. Former Prime Minister Tony Blair was publicly questioned by the committee on 29 January 2010 and again on 21 January 2011.
The final report was published on 6th July 2016 having around 6275 pages, 2.5 million words and an executive summary.
The report described by various Medias are BBC news described the finding in the Reports as “damning”, The Guardian as “crushing verdict” and The Telegraph as “scathing”

Protests against Tony Blair

The report says there were a chance of diplomatic options to avoid the war and the war was therefore not a last resort. Intervention might have becomes necessary later but in 2003 Saddam Hussein didn’t pose an immediate threat and the majority of UN Security Council supported for diplomatic talks. Chilcot also states that Blair committed himself in writing to backing Mr. Bush over Iraq and said “I will be with
you whatever”.

Aftermath of Invasion
Iraq Invasion ended the 3 decade dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. But it resulted a human casualty of around 1.5 lakhs Iraqi civilian’s which includes children and many Iraqi Citizen got misplaced. End of Saddam’s dictatorship resulted unimaginable anarchism among Iraqis and it gave birth to new extremist militant groups and the major tragedy of the invasion was the birth of Sunni Extremists ISIS who became the major threat to the world. Saddam was not that much good person but in his dictatorship the people felt more security. Many innocent children got handicapped and killed in the western attacks.

After releasing the Chilcot report the relatives of the servicemen who lost their life in the war conducted the protests against Mr. Blair and they shouted against him and shouted Mr. Blair as a liar and a war criminal
In a Press conference in Central London after the twelve hours Mr. Blair made apology after the Chilcot report, in his words
“ I Express more sorrow, regret and apology than you may ever know or can believe, As the report makes clear there were no lies, parliament and cabinet were not misled, there was no secret commitment to war. The intelligence was not falsified and the decision was made in good faith. I will never agree that those who died or were injured... made their sacrifice in vain. I knew it was not a popular decision... I did it because I thought it was right and because I thought the human cost of inaction... would be greater for us and for the world in the longer term”, but he rejected the claims the war itself increased the terror threat. the video of the speech has given below

Labour party leader Mr. Jeremy Corbyn also made another apology on the behalf of his party’s decision in Iraq war of 2003. He apologised to both the officers who lost lives in war and also he apologised to Iraqi people who lost their lives and still living with devastating consequences of the war.

Mr. Blair and Mr. Corbyn made apologies and what was the real mistakes done by innocent Iraqi people..?.
Mr. Blair your decision devastated a nation and it gave the birth for new terror threats and most of the Iraqi regions are now captured by the anarchists ISIS and still now the Iraqi people are paying their lives in the blasts and terror attacks because of the political inconsistency you have made. The history will never give apology to you…
