April 13th of 1919 An Indian
will never forget . because on this day the imperialist government shown their
brutality against the Indians. ie Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. British

Harry Dyer ordered his army to fire the uarmed protestors along with the
people gathered for Baishaki celebration in Jallianwala bagh , Amritsar ,
Punjab.
People Gathered at Jallianwala Bagh ( Bagh
Means Garden) For protesting against the arrest of two Leaders Dr Satyapal
and Dr saifuddin despite a curphew which had been recently declared . all
the meetings and any type of gathering had banned. But this order was not
widely disseminated. That was the day of Baishaki Festival. The people was
celebrating the festival along with the protestors. When Dyer got the
information about a meeting had assembled he went to the spot with a fifty
Gurkha Rifleman. At that time the Jallian wala Bagh has only one entrance .
Dyer blocked this Entrance and ordered his riflemen to shoot the unarmed people
with any announcement or warning . and started to fire. He continued this
brutal action around ten minutes. Around 1700 rounds fired. People ran around
the site gor save their lives, some of them tried to climb the walls of the
site. Many of the people fallen in to a well inside the bagh ( Now it is called
as Marty’s Well or Shaheedi kuwa) .
In an estimate by brish India government
around 379 dead and an approximate 1100 wounded. But this estimate is wrong .
maximum of 1000 human casualities happened.
After this Dyer went to Britain . the House
of Lords gave him a Hero image but the House of Commons under Winston
Churchil Condemned the act done by Dyer.
Aftermath
The Massacre leads to the mass protest at
outside the Punjab Province . This made a twist in the independence movement.
Ravindra Nath Tagore renounced his Knighthood. This Incedent made a wound
in the heart of revolutionaries. On 13th March 1940 Udam singh a witness of the event killed Michael O
Dyer Lieutenant – Governor of Punjab at that time and approved R dyer’s
action and believed as main planner in London.
In February 2013 David Cameron the
first British Prime Minister who visit to the site regretted the “ It is a
Deeply Shameful event in the British
history.
